Yes, it looks like that, but I won't be able to measure the thread until the weekend.

Trolley rescue and engine mounting
Thank you I look forwards to receiving it
The original trolley was not appropriate for the job. it had collapsed at the steering end under the weight.
So I shortened it for starters as the back end was crap anyway.
Having managed to bend the steering section back to its correct height I set about a new main axle.
Cheap as chips for 2 delivered under £12
20mm galv conduit for axle
I had to carefully study the balance of the engine to avoid a reoccurrence of the steering collapse.
The oil drain plug was a strong indicator
Some pictures just for the love of it.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
Thank you both
The trolley nearly got discarded but I’m extremely happy the way it turned out. The balance was crucial just like the tow ball weight of a caravan, I can lift the steering wheels easily BUT not too easily. Lifting for oil draining will be a bonus
The original rear wheels were cast iron and both cracked as well as being too small in diameter.
The front wheels are potentially 19th century but certainly made in London. I may change them yet for another pair like the rears

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
The trolley is an original one from a Dexter electric hedge trimming set from the 1930's. It would have had a Villiers Marvil and a small dynamo mounted upon it which powered the electric hedge trimmers. Quite a rare trolley today.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
One of our club members had the complete outfit, he passed away a few years ago so sadly have no idea what happened to the engine.

10 minutes soak in white vinegar and table salt followed by a rub down with 0000 grade wire wool then Brasso.
Might be having a first run tomorrow

The engine is looking good, you're raising the tension levels with the prospect of its first run!
Hope it goes well.
Interesting video.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
Thank you Neil
First run in decades I imagine. Still a bit of tuning required but I think the trolley contributes to the apparent vibration. The Zenith24U carb has very limited adjustment and I may upgrade it to a 24T yet.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
I’ve made a decision about the trolley. Firstly it was never designed to carry the weight it’s been burdened with. Secondly it will cost me a lot more money to make a new one from scratch. Thirdly my choice is to fit a tandem axle exactly like a trailer so it will still steer but the weight will not affect the front steering arches.
EDIT first time I've tried using forum picture hosting, seems to be a fail.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
Or you could sell the Petter and put a nice Villiers Marvil and small generator on the trolley

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
Yesterday I obtained by chance the bulk of another 1945 Petter A. This has all the parts I need to rectify the broken and worn parts on my otherwise good engine.
Also has what I think is the correct magneto? Yes it works too :-)
I also got the correct silencer and manifold without a damaged hole
Still 100% success with the Claas tool

Do you want an engine and dynamo to complete the set? As Phillip said, not many about.

Re: Petter A 1945 restoration
W. London (near M25 / M40 junction). Haven't run the engine for many years and dynamo is a complete unknown. I'll dig them out and give them a look over if you are interested.
No real idea on price - have to do a bit of research and see what Mar-Vils are fetching at the moment.
