Thank, Bob. Very odd !, like small buckets. I see that there is a hole in the side, I'm wondering if this is a water driven generator ? They were advertised in early 20s copies of hobby magazines like Model Engineer.

Re: 1920s Dc Generator
This is the sort of thing I was thinking of, the Whitney water turbine was advertised for years in Model Engineer about 100 years ago:
And here's a bit more robust Pelton design for domentic situations:
They are extremely low efficiency in domestic situations so I doubt your example is good for more than 6 volts. However, its a rare and unusual thing, I've not seen one before.
The disappointing thing is that they are inefficient in the extreme, and even more sad is that you can get modern plastic versions for as little as £9 including postage from the far east. Here's an example:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352629035731?epid=26031086776&hash=item521a5412d3:g:SugAAOSwCrtcnK2Z
I can't believe that these are being made in this ECO-sensitive world. These things waste 25 litres of purified water every minute !!!
