GILKES PUMP Empty GILKES PUMP

Post by Earlybird Sat Apr 10 2021, 07:48

Hi, I recently acquired this little pump with a group of engines and bits and pieces. My original intention was to sell all but one engine in an attempt to get some if my money back but on closer inspection this looks pretty complete and worth keeping. I've never had much to do with pumps themselves but I see that the company gilkes is very much thriving still and has produced equipment for many years. Despite finding a photo on the internet showing the pump in a cream colour I could find no other specific information and I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on it for me. Dating appeared to be around the 40,s but may well be later than that and mine is in the often used green paint which may well be wrong for this. I have no idea what horse power would be needed to drive it so any thoughts and ideas are very welcomGILKES PUMP 20210410

Nice pump. The remote greasers(?) for the bearings are interesting, I suspect they would have originally had copper pipes rather than what look like flexi plumbing connectors though?

Yes good point. I haven't studied it too closely but these do stand out a bit . Someone has restored this a few years ago at a guess maybe never finished even but it's something to look at replacing. If I can find a good photo it may help.

Might be worth contacting the manufacturer as they are still around?
Looks a well made solid pump.

Yes quite often they are very helpful when something from their history is involved. It would be nice to know what market these were aimed at too
