Villiers M1634 coil
Hi all,
I'm close to having my Villiers Mk10 all back together now, the final problem to solve is that the coil is open circuit. I see these are available new from a motorcycle supplier but they're quite expensive, so I thought I'd ask here in case anybody has an old but working M1634 that they are willing to part with, which won't hurt my pocket as much!
Cheers

How much is a new coil, a rewind of yours would be around £75, I wouldnt bother with a "unknown" second had one, just because it works and gives the right readings doesnt mean it would work a plug under compression.

I would go with a new one. Then you know it will work.

You can get the real thing here:
https://villiersservices.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=29
but a tad pricey, as you say.
I have used the Taiwanese copies successfully. Difficult to find M1634E so you may have to settle for generic 'long' type and bodge. A bit of a slack fit but shimmed with a bit of aluminium drinks can they work fine. Salvage the button from your duff coil and connect to HT loop with a (stranded) fly lead and epoxy in place.
EDIT. That said, if you just want a running engine, rather than a show piece, you could just use an external coil.

Re: Villiers M1634 coil
Shimming with steel drinks cans should work better as it helps the magnetic flux.
