Re: Will it prime?
I reckon that as long as the water level in the tank is higher than the inlet it should syphon over nicely.

I stand corrected. Of course, bottom of pipe in bucket would need to be higher than pump to start siphoning

Re: Will it prime?
I did very similar with my A2 Godwin and that was a total pig to prime and very often ran all day on one side of the stroke and not both as they are a double acting pump, having said that it has worked that way for 30 odd years and I've still not changed it!!

Looks like I will be going for bottom entry (ooh err missus ) just got to find the plumbing equivalent of what I know as a bulkhead fitting.

Bulkhead fitting
or visit your local pond/aquatic shop. I used something similar to pipe up my pond filter tank.

Re: Will it prime?
Why not replace the elbow at the top left with an equal tee fitting. You can then fit a tap and funnel on the upward part of the tee for priming the pump. No need to makes holes in your tank.

Worth thinking about, a polished copper funnel would look nice.

Blue cat come on my friend, all a T will do is fill the bucket as the water will take the least resistive path.

Maryalice, I have something similar on my Blackstone pump, the water drops straight through the tee to the suction chamber, of course some may divert into the bucket, but all it needs is a small amount of water to reach the suction for the pump to prime. The water is added after the pump is turning but not necessarily pumping.

Come on Mary from the Dairy, engage brain. Put a non return valve on the inlet side on the pipe in the bucket, then the water poured into the funnel will fill the pump and not the bucket.....

Come on chaps, it's obvious it wont prime; there's too many breaks in that pipe.

It's to allow more water into the pipe instead of just picking up at the bottom
