New member with Bamford interest
Hello all, I'm a new member and new to stationary engines but have had a lifelong interest in them and always go to the stationary engine display at country fairs and the like.
I have decided that I really should have my own engine, preferably a Bamfords of Uttoxeter engine as my dad was a pattern maker there and both my grandparents worked there in the core shop and the foundry, so when I look at a Bamfords engine it almost certainly has a family connection. What I'm lookig for is guidance as to where to start - I've looked on eBay but all the engines are either restored and expensive or needing too much work for me to attempt as a first project. I live near Lichfield in Staffordshire so ideally would like some advice as to where to start and/or ideally someone local to 'take me under their wing'
Thanks for reading this, Rob

Hi Rob and a warm welcome to the forum.
Maybe you should start with something small and air cooled, JAP or Villiers for example, and see if you like the experience then work your way up to something a bit more challenging.
I'm sure you get plenty of help and advice from other members.
Good luck.
