17 and strugling with the weight!!

I know what you mean, they can be a handfull on your own.

lookoing good though well done.

Can i point out a point for the paint and markings etc, have a look at the Bamfords in the link below

http://www.stationaryengineforum.net/t3119-list-of-paint-codes

Its only a guid and its up to the individual but it may look good and stand out on the Rally field.

HI LEWIS...
thats a cracking engine....a few years back i was after one,it was a 3hp but the fella sold it to someone else..
but now my backs knackered im sticking to smaller engines like 1hp- 1 1/2hp open cranks...
you should be very proud of it....keep up the good work...

when i got the engine it never got hot around the exhasut valve. Its only since we took the valves out to re grind them, It has started doing it. The only valve that gets hot is the exhaust and it only gets hot and around the cylinder head. but no where else. it starts and runs well only the heat in the exhaust valve.

Lewis how hot is it getting, reading this it sounds that it must be very hot if it's causing you some concern. I have to agree with what's been said and check the timing. I wonder if it's worth adding an additive to the petrol, to put some of the lead back in. On older car engines when they changed the petrol to lead free they would burn out the valves or valve seats, so it was change them for a modern vavle or put an aditive in the fuel. Normally it should effect something like a stationary engine but maybe worth a try.

getting hot enough so that when you place a drop of water on it evaporates straight away.

timing i believe is now better it was only slightly out. but out. so thats been adjusted and now is better.

need to give it a good run and try it on heating oil. whats a good mixture for heating oil.

I wouldnt Put any aditive in the fuel as due to the engines age it would have been meant to run on the old 2 star petrol, which basicly is unleaded in todays money.

The only thing that i can think of to making the valve hot would be the timming or mixture, It wouldnt take the timming to be out by much to make the valve hot.

Lewis I'm no expert but I would say it should be a few degrees before TDC. Someone with a bit more knowledge of this engine might be able to help you better.
