It a family affair, I have been going to steam rallies for a few years now, always wanted to tinker with something but I don't have the room.
We lost my Mum in January and my Dad looked after her full time so all of a sudden he had lots of time to do nothing, not good what every way you look at it.
Dad, myself and my brother are all mechanically minded so we started to look for something he could tinker with.
Dad wanted a old Matchless motorbike like he had in the 50's, then saw the price.......How Much!!!!!!
I suggested a Stationary engine, cheaper than a Matchless, He said what would he do with Stationary engine when ha finished it, We said what would he do with Matchless when he finished it and it was the doing it up that counts, something to do and fill his time.

So we picked up locally a J.A.P. 5, Non-runner £60.

Hi and welcome.

It is surprising how one engine seems to soon become two, three, etc . Hope you enjoy your new hobby.
Literature on JAP engines is not hard to come by and there is a reprint of the JAP engine maintenance guide available from the Internal Fire Museum. They usually list their manuals on ebay.
