Hello all.
I'm new to this lark, picked up my first engine last week. Got the beast going, sort of, needs a few bits and bobs to get running properly.
Anyway, I've not much idea what it is or when it was built other than it's a Lister D and could be pre 1950.
Any help with a positive ID would be much appreciated.
On a brass plate above the oil filler is stamped No: 1/50,230 and spec: 28 DHR also what appears to be HP: 1,0 700rpm.

Thanks
Keith

Hello Keith - a warm welcome to the forum this lot are a friendly bunch - your question has already been answered by one of the Admin guys (Thanks to RAB here...) so I have copied and pasted his answer - its spot on as advice goes as the Gent in question is very very well known in the engine world.

Write a letter with your serial numbers and engine details and you should get a letter back with the year your engine was made and maybe some history

Let us know what you get back... and just to let you know a letter not email is the best way to get hold of David - don't forget to enclose an SAE...

David has also written many books on the subject of Lister Ds - and there are plenty out there for the running and restoration if you didn't already know.

best

Ok, thanks for that, I'll send him a letter and post the results.
Could be a while as I've got to find some uk stamps from somewhere....

He will respond to emails just the same as snail mail. You just need to include the words 'please' and 'thank you'.
The number of requests he gets without these is unbelievable and some when asked 'Can you date my D type no 12345 spec 67dh' get a truthful answer of 'Yes'.
For davids email just google his name.

Well, I found some stamps, at least 10 years old but they've done good.
Got a reply from David.
The Lister is from a batch of engines supplied to Winget Ltd in Kent to power concrete mixers in July 1950.
Anyway, I've just received a box of goodies for it, so will be spannering tomorrow to get her running sweet.
Then I'll be looking for something for her to power......
