I have a model 2s jap engine and i can see the numbers on the side of the crankcase and it begins with M, but when i look at the dating there is two dates, so could anyone please tell me wether it will be 1944 or 1924 as i am not sure which one it is.
Thanks

It wont be 1924 because JAP didn't make industrial engines until the late 1930's. Wink

I have just acquired a JAP 2a running a compressor. It's serial starts with 2AA is this 1945 or 1960?
Can't get it to run, but I'm working on it... Smile

Jap 2s dating Empty engine date

Post by brandon2196 Sat Aug 11 2012, 21:33

Hi,
dazcaz the best thing to do is the thing that kev said to do, all you have to do is where your exhaust is there willl be a thin metal plate running around the back of the the engine and if you take off the exhaust this thing will come off then get a wire brush or something like that and take the dirt away from the inside and in a little circle it will say A.J.H and then the date of your engine.

Hope this helps
