Hi all, thought I'd post something constructive on here at last
My Dad got this single cylinder diesel from work. It used to be an auxillary fire pump on board the SMIT Tamar where my dad works. Hes got the pump for it too, not bad for a free engine.

Its been stood outside on dock bach for 18 months but the condition of it isn't bad considering its been by saltwater. The cowlings a bit rough but we'll see about sorting it out.

I need to get a set of stud extractors from machine mart as one of the Allen bolts holding the back plate in was seized solid and has rounded off (the bottom one). The other three came off with some gentle persuasion in the form of a large hammer, breaker bar and torch. Here is said plate before I started to try and remove it,

Since I have to wait for the extractors I decided to take the sump off to look at the bottom of the engine, due to the outside appearance of the engine /9rotten cowling and all) i wasn't expecting much but I was very pleased to find that it was all nice and clean inside. I took a look at the big end as well and it looks good.

Here's the fire pump that was connected to the engine. at the minute its just a shell (albeit an extremely heavy one) and I need to see if I can find the bits for it. I think its made of bronze. Shown next to the trusty mug for size

Hi & welcome to the forum!

Looks like good work so far, these things always look cleaner inside, especially when they've been in a corrosive atmosphere, like on a dock side.

What sort of age is the engine?

Hope you can find all the bits for the pump & get it all back together as a unit once again. Good luck with it.

The corrision looks a bit nasty due to the salt in the atmoshere, makes me wonder what the piston would be like after drawing in a salt air mix. I have to say the big end looks spot on doesn't show any signs of wear or is it not showing up in the picture?
That sure is a man cave and I thought it was only me that had a messy shed LOL.
The pump must have a large output looking at it's size.
Not had any dealings with this type of engine being overhauled before so it looks interesting, please keep us updated.
Good luck at removing your troublesome studs and I hope you manage to get them out ok.

Lovely workshop, bit on the messy side but still lovely. I'm very envious.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this restoration, you might be surprised on the age of the engine, I know I have been before.

It won't be messy for long Smile we've had a new garage built on to the house so a lot of things like the welders, tool chests and the press will go in there. Means I will have more room to put engines in then Very Happy I think its fair to say our stuff gets used
