IVE JUST BOUGHT A JAP 5
UNCOMPLEATED RESTORATION from 1940s
i have also dated the E30 villiers/ jap 4/3 it is stamped on tinwork and tank 1964,
the year after jap was ceised trading.

BACK TO THE JAP 5
it has been rebored +20 and new piston shells valves and bearings
it also has a new old stock mag and also had been sent to mag restores for a full check over before fitting to engine
i have been working on it for 2 days disasembling sump off for a flush out ,better safe than sorry
work by previous owner stopped last backend and stood dry sumped so flushed piston out and oiled up ready for when i first fire it up
exhurst looks cast iron build and think its the original ????
have also stripped the carb down for a full clean out and rebuild
looky i did as the fuel float shut off was sat on top of the float
got the governoirs rebuilt and asembled to night and fitted the mag on no hadbook for engine so winged the timing of the mag around 3/16-1/4" before top dead maybe its a little to soon or write before tdc but will find out hopfully before testing
thanks kev

well i have now got in the comunal security doored entrance wx11 lzha and the lzh sat one one trolley as removed the climax pump for rebuilding
just looking out for 2x 1 1/2" leather cup seals to complete again
and then i have 3x villiers 25s stripped down in boxes stacked up and around the jap 4/3 as was shelved util i got a new headgasket
which i now have, so will have to be fitted and dragged back out for a fire up video
hopfully without the blue flames from around the top and bottom studs on head gasket
and a villiers V restored just waiting for owling and tank to be top coated inn better weather

jap 5
i have found a date stamped on cowling and it is 1947
thought i read it wrong so whent surfing and engine number 5c2504s is listed as 1947-48
so tinwork is in fair condiction for age no root at all
not had a spanner in hand today
so aiming for a weekend fire up
FINGERS CROSSED

id rather be paying tax than being called
"the reason why working people have to pay so much tax
while i sit on my arse watchin the jerramie kial show
there not bothered that since i was 12 yrs old i worked on a farm ,from 16 i also worked nights in a night club then a working mans club
then i stopped working for farmers and ran a pub for 3 yrs then worked in a 4 star hotel as bar and staff manager, then for a window repair company util they whent bust and then 10 yrs solid for my last job until the recievers moved in and closed the company ,also 2 1/2 months before that i work 6 day weeks for £80.00 a week to try and beat the closer ,but the 4 of use that did it, out of 34 staff failed but we tryed.
so all in all 22 years working with only about 4 weeks over all looking for new jobs until now ive been looking for 2 yrs and this is a big chance im taking
at the min but hope i can get a cosha job from it
thanks kev

i would welcome advice openly
but i like the challange of doing as much as possable myself
if i cant do it with the forum backing to
the its beyond repair
ive had to break 2 engines down for spares and scrapped the blocks as beyond resonable repair
one was bought just for parts as governor gear poking through the side but gear was fine and is in another engine now
couldnt beleave it was not marked or damaged when its gone through cast iron but its a hardened steel gear not cast iron
so it was a paper stone sissors and gear won
the other the bore was potholed and beyond the rebore tolarances
cant save them all can we
but we all try to

ive stripped the wolseley down and rebuilt it..it was running when i did this, only did it as it was smoking a bit and didn't have a lot of compression, due to rings being worn.it was that bad you didn't need a starting handle to start it..
must have put something in wrong...will start up another thread on this matter...
