Its not a Diesel engine its a Diesel starting engine, so it was started on Petrol and used to start bigger diesels, Aveling and Braford rollers had them.

Being Ex-Military alot were scrapped, there is a register of Scott engine, there is about 20 SE's on there this one having the lowest serial number, there is one for sale in Ireland at the mo.

Well After blowing a bulb up at Henham, I had mix results in getting to keep going.
This is the best that I could get it, its a bit fast but any slower and it would stop, with the dynamo on it will run lovely and seemed to use less fuel then it does on idle, so will to look at getting another bulb.

And a picture of the information that I had on display

The exhaust has been turned upside down as the was a build up of oil forming in the bottom of the exhaust, it worked alot cleaner later in the day, also I picked up a brass tap, for a quid! that will be fitted onto the sump to drain it out every once and a while.

Hopefully will get a new bulb and start again!

Right the way forward with the Scott, the small end is in need of replacing, well a oversized gudgeon pin can be sourced, the bearing just need to be reamed out to 16mm.

While I got it apart I was thinking of doing something along the lines of this.

I was thinking about stuart turner generators and how sometimes they have the square fuel tank mounted on a board behind the engine, I recon I could make a base so the engine faces Magneto out, have the oil and fuel tank mounted on a false (maybe brick effect) wall, which can be removed for transport.
A pump of some sorts was thinking of a small centrifugal job like a small stuart one, but a smallish piston pump would do the job, which would be pumped into the cooling system kept behind the wall.
And then a exhaust system, Im currently watching a Brass stuart one on ebay, but was thinking of one of those cast iron pot ones.

Think I got it how I want it to look, I have picked up a gear pump, so its just the square wall mount tank I need really to get started, well and the small end fixing Shocked

Its going to have a false wall with the oil and petrol tank mounted on it, the water tank and exhaust will be plumbed in behind the wall, I have a small gear pump for circulating the water, which will be belt driven from the magneto drive side, Im trying to make it look like a miniature movable install, the funnel in the water feed is there to show the flow of water, I got the idea from the Petter TX at internal fire, which is i my video.

thought I better sort the problem before going and further! So I got it apart, im measuring 15.9mm at the widest part, I can get a 5 thou feeler gauge between the gudgeon pin and the bearing, I can get a 6 thou in the very edge, but though tis was because of a chamfer for getting the gudgeon pin in?

Steve if you have that much wear it will be oval due to ignition putting a down ward force on to the bush. It might be worth checking the piston and see if there's any wear on that. I'm not used to small engine's but normally they are round. To re-fit the gudgeon pin to the piston, best way is put the piston into some very hot water for a few minutes to expand it the the pin should slide back in easy.

Getting the bush replaced and the piston and gudgeon pin seems fin, up and down the bush seems fine, seems to be warn on the sides.

No problem, the tank in the pic looks home made! so you'll maybe have to do that or get one made up.

The way you've discribed the wear doesn't sound to bad so a new samll end bush should sort it.

Think im verging on a proper restoration here....:whistle:

Well looks like a got a bit more ingenuity then I gave myself credit for!

Managed to push the bush out with help from the old exhaust pipe.

There is a locating screw that got through the conrod into the bush, it didnt seem very tight, might put a bit of loctite on it when putting it back together, dont want it dropping off inside!

the ware to the bush was apparent when I could push the pin in by hand, quite easily.

Oh sh*t Steve the end of the oil pump cracking is bad news, not sure if you'll get away with just a cover or you'll need a new pump. If it was mine I think I'd fit new if nothing available repair the old one, I think these are matched units. Maybe grind a "V" along the crack then braze it, then file it down until nearly flush and finish of on a flat steel plate and emery. The outside face doesn't matter about neing flat.
To re-fit the new bush just use a press or a vice making sure it's kept level, the once it's in check for any distortion or burr on the edge. Try to heat the con. rod in boiling water first or put the bush in dry ice, I'm not sure if B&Q sell dry ice tho.

That going to be the circulation pump for the cooling system, I have been given a slab of Aluminium to mend it, should be fine!

Il work out a way for getting it back in, just got to send it off now, had a quite around the £25 mark so more then happy with that!

Thanks, I got some liquid metal Im going to give a shot at, the aluminum cover has not worked out well, plus the wind blew one of the bolts off my work bench so need to look for that!
