Hit and miss
Hello all. I was at a small gathering of engines the other day. It was for charity. But very few turned up wit the weather. But i notised one engine like it was double hitting or mabe trible sometimes. Why wood this be.

Can you remember the make of the engine, early engines used a form of governor which didn't control the speed of the engine via the carb but kept the exhaust valve open or withheld the spark ignition from working to allow the engine to freewheel until the speed reduced enough to release the valve or ignition to cause the engine to fire again whilst off load therefore saving expensive fuel.

Adding to Maryalice's comment; if the engine was a hit and miss engine and 'double hitting' it usually means that it probably needed the fuel valve opening a little more as it was searching for fuel.

Thanks lads. Couldn't see a name but double flywheel and closed crank. Looked at some pictures in a book and looked like a john deere. Have to learn to ask more questions .
