Lister LH 9HP Miss october
Hi all I had my 1936 Lister LH out today and decided to make a video. I got this engine in bits at the end of april and was restored by myself over a few months, she was originally supplied to Liner concrete and was paired with a stone crusher. Hope you enjoy the video Cheers Dan

Great work Dan, it does sound nice. Have you anything planned as your next restoration?

Yes I have a Lister B under the bench but that is a more long term project as the previous owner tried to run it with one gib key! I also have 2 DK's under the other bench one of those has been restored to working clothes condition and only needs a trolley. My Petter AV1 needs a trolley making for it too and finally I have a nice early 57v Bruston dynamo that needs to be looked at, repainted and a lighting board/trolley making for it. Phew! So I have plenty to be getting on with.

listers love a good load on them and thud all day well with a load on
other wise they are a little unsettled with nothing to do,my lister A industrial used to run just the same as yours guverioring up and slowing trying to find the load , and somtimes they can foul the spark plug in a day hunting and idealing on the rallys mate

Re: Lister LH 9HP Miss october
Hi Kev, I had noticed that as you say the larger listers prefer a load, strange as my old Lister A would run all day and not miss a beat (vid on my youtube channel). The trouble with the LH is that it dwarfs any normal size water pump and dynamo etc. I'm hope that my bruston dynamo (originally from a lister h lighting plant) running plenty of lights will provide enough of a load to settle her down. I will know more if and when I get the dynamo down to cornwall from northampton.

Re: Lister LH 9HP Miss october
I'm sure I used to have one of these, but can't remember if it was a Lister L or a Lister N??? I remember it was very tall, with the big straight sided hopper (which holds a surprising amount of water). The twin spoked flywheels were lower than the base of the engine (I think. I seem to remember it was transported up a hill by it's flywheels, which were seized by the piston at the time). It had the double brass plunger pump for oil & petrol.
It was never any more than a project, I got as far as getting the piston out, then it had to be sold on as we were moving house. Think I was about 15 when it went. I would love another, but I wouldn't have anywhere to put it. Nice to see one of the bigger Listers up & running though, a really nice example, this one.
