Fairbanks Morse
Are there any Fairbanks experts on here?
I'm going to pick-up a model 'Z' 3hp tomorrow which is going to require a fair bit of work to rescue it so I will be picking some of our members brains.
Photos to follow when it's in my posesion.

The magneto looks like a motorbike magneto and appears to have a MOD stamp on one of the three stubs.

The way the base is drilled through the makers name/model number certainly suggests it's been adapted to fit.

The original magneto will have been a low tension Sumter. I think that Fairbanks used the Sumter No12. They also had an ignitor fitted rather than a spark plug. These mags are not that easy to come across and usually command very strong money when they appear for sale. I would be tempted to leave it as is.
It looks like your engine is also missing some parts for the fuel pump system. Its an interesting project. Good luck with it.

Re: Fairbanks Morse
I've got some bits and bobs in a bucket (see photos) that came with the engine, I hope it contains the pump linkages etc
