Wolseley WD8 starting problems
Hi all, Throwing this over a couple of forums in the hope someone can help me.
I have a WD8 1.5 hp that is beginning to be a bit of a nemesis! Once running she will go all day lovely but getting her going is a nightmare!
Compression is a little on the low side although much better than it was. It has had a complete overhaul including governor out and cleaned, new rings, valves reseated, and gap checked etc etc and she still isn't happy about firing. Mag has been reconditioned, new plug and the list goes on. She will only fire with the handle, not off the wheel (I have no issue with that) and the float lid off (breather hole is clear) When I do this and rotate the flywheel I have fuel pouring out the bottom of the carb! Float and needle all checked and all good. Timing behind the cover is spot on, checked, double checked and checked again just to be sure. I am still very much learning so keep it simple please haha
What am I missing?
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Many thanks, Julie

Re: Wolseley WD8 starting problems
You say timing is "spot on" have you timed the points to open at 18(?) degrees BTDC or the impulse to trip at 18 degrees BTDC?
If the impulse is tripping at 18 degrees then the timing is about 20 degrees out.

Try another plug , condensor , points gapped right ? lower the float to lessen it being too rich for starting !! Are you getting a nice fat blue spark ?

Tried another plug, same issue, literally will only start if you take float cap off but then have the fuel coming out of the carb. :/
