Blinging the Enfield VS1
Hi all, sort of fallen for this ol girl, really has grown on me, always creates lots of interest, so decided to give her some lovin, going to do more and more as time goes on , but heres the latest pics of some of the detailed polishing, not going to polish the whole engine but pick out different parts and paint the rest, either ruston bronze green or ruston maroon, Thanks
The original condition of the castings can be seen in the picture
Thanks Janner

Been at it again today , took the AC oil bath air filter off and stripped it back to bare metal and primed and top coated it and put fresh oil in and re fitted.
After the gauze was thoroughly cleaned
And re fitted

Looking good, one of our club member's has one and that never even gets wiped over let alone polished! It does run well though, once it starts.

Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
Pete , I heard all the stories regarding their poor starting and have yet to see what they mean !! if the engines got good compression and you crank it over half a dozen times to richen the chamber it starts as soon as the decompressor is released , thanks for the comment though, appreciatedFoden wrote:Looking good, one of our club member's has one and that never even gets wiped over let alone polished! Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
It starts fine during summer but at our December lightup it takes a little persuading with a flare! Once running though it knocks away nicely running a generator or a large pump.

Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
Later version than mine, slight differences too , mine has the breather on top, and your mates one has a mechanical fuel pump to draw up the fuel whereas mine is gravity fed from new, also his rocker is flat and not domed , also has one oil gauge whereas mine has two, pressure and temp , subtle differences , but they are quirky little buggers. Thanks

Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
Done a bit more today , stripped the gauges off and resprayed the shells of them , also while off fitted new o rings that fit between the bezel and the housing, then polished the governor/gauge plate as shown, think that will be it for the polishing and the rest of the engine casings painted to emphasise the polished parts.
Thanks , Janner

Well, actually I have been doing stuff to the Enfield though , got the aircowling off and degreased and ready for the treatment, the flywheel has been undercoated tonight ready for top coating, so while the cowl and flywheel is off will get cleaning behind there too now.

Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
kev, The Enfield is a fairly rare sight on the rally field and on top of that if you ever get the chance to look inside one they were beautifully engineered , they're bad press for being difficult to start is down to poor maintenance and no fault of the design, if they are in good order and everything is kept in spec they usually start with a few swings, and then when you start looking into the different models and realise just how many are left of this particular model then it worth the effort, like I said , the silly thing has grown on me lol !!!!kevjhnsn wrote:never seen an enfeild get so much loving

Re: Blinging the Enfield VS1
Very true Rob, but this turd seems to attract attention, must be the sweetcorn !!!!
Anyway, been out today and stripped the rocker off and head and barrel as to clean the fins it needs to be stripped properly, pleased to report no bore wear at all and everything in very good condition inside, so it looks like this ol girl's rally season is over for 2013 as it'll take a while now to get it all sorted, also an engineer mate has bee here today and took the stub shaft away with a twin v groove pulley I had and is going to machine the pulley to fit the shaft so next year it'll be driving the big Pullen water pump bought from Dave Seniorengineer.
