My second Lister D

As mentioned elsewhere I've just got my second Lister D going.
Still a few things to do with it, but it runs at least.
Here's some images.


General view. Note the home made muffler. Very effective though.


You can see here that I need a proper tap for the water outlet. I need more than that as the thread here is gone completely. I have a valve with a bigger thread, but I need a bigger drill bit first. I have only up to about 13mm dia drills, and think I need about 15mm, then tap a new thread.
Can also see here the lack of chain guard (I'll put one on later, have to make that!), and the Wico magneto, made from various bits off Ebay. Need to shim up the magneto to tension the chain yet.

No 1 still works, with its modified ignition system, but a magneto seems to do the job much better!

what year is it?

1947 or 48. I've got it written down somewhere.
Brass plate and flywheel have same number, so probably original number.

Nice looking engine Geoff, it looks as if the previous owner liked to make his own parts and very successfully by the looks of them. Geoff don't over tighten the mag chain or you'll damage the mags bearing if there's to much tension.

its not the previous owner that makes the parts, its me!
Instead of always just buying a bit, if I can make it or fix it I'll have a go.
There's lost of parts avaiolable, but some are just expensive, and there's far more enjoyment in making something from scratch.
Sometimes its nothing complicated; for example the governor adjustment is just a piece of 6mm round bar threaded, and bet the other end into a hook. The brass nut is a cut down bolt from an old transforner here, the spring out of a door latch.
I could have bougt all that on Ebay for £8 total, instead of spending 30 minutes making the parts!
Measured the rpm of Lister D #2 today, and its doing about 450rpm, That seems a little slow, but that doesn't matter I guess.

Only thing to bear in mind about the engines RPM when running slow is your engine is oil splash fed so a slow tick over might not splash the oil about as much as you need.
