James I think I'd be tempted to give it a squirt of Easy Start just to get it going, or see if it will start and if not then you could do some checks to timing etc.

What did you do to get it running?
Easy start can be useful for getting it going first time but the more you use it the more your engine will rely on it and after a while you will have a buggered engine.
I know some people don't believe me but I've seen it happen first hand. OK to get you out of trouble but a big NO NO for regular use

Has it got a primer like the other petter and lister diesels? A good squirt of oil in the air intake is a better way of doing it. I don't know much about that particular model.

No Ian, they haven't. They normally start easily even in cold weather as the pump rack automatically goes to a cold start position before starting and then returns to normal when running, could just have been a gremlin in the works!

Re: Petter PAZ 1 wont start
I assume they're direct injection. my Petter AA1 was indirect and that needed a squirt in the primer every cold start, two squirts in the winter.
I'm missing my diesel, might have to get another.

Yes Ian, I wish that I hadn't sold my early (1954) PAZ1 last year! It got a few adverse comments on the rallyfield due to the noise as it was often the only diesel there, one woman even complained that she couldn't hear the tennis on her tv in the caravan but I just told her to either turn the sound up or use the subtitles haha. I may get another one day, my first engine was an LD1 which I partly restored but sold it on without finishing it and I regretted that as well!!! Will have to make some room in the garage first though.

Great to hear you've managed to get her running. A little squirt of Easy Start just helps that first initial time and yes Ian is correcting saying an engine can get addicted but it does take a lot of use over a lot of months to get it to that state.
So what are you doing with the engine now James?

What do you mean when you say the rack automatically goes to a cold start position? Is it a case of the injector pumping more fuel in? If so what should the spray pattern look like in this position? On my Paz1 on testing the injector I get some fuel that is atomised accompanyied with a jet of fuel???

Re: Petter PAZ 1 wont start
I think it will just increase the amount of fuel that it delivers not make any difference to the injector spray pattern.
