I've found this in my old saved file and thought it might be of use to anyone wanting to know which colour there engine should be. It's a shame not all engines are listed.

Hello all. Nearly ready to put my jap 2s together. Making the linkage from governor to carb at the moment. I wasnt goin to paint it but after been at a few rallys i think it be a shame not to. I realy want to to the rite thing bye the engine. It looked ok but alot of the engine paint is gone. And if i dont paint it ill feel lazy. 😀. But the thing is i dont no where to get the JAP engine paint or if i get it mixed dos it have to be special heat paint or.need primer. Or what that colour that lite green /blue is even called. Be so glad of any help.

Don't know of any specific source of JAP stationary engine paint. I would suggest you take a sample (ie an engine part) into a paint supplier and get it colour matched and have some paint made up. Try to get engine enamel paint rather than just bog standard gloss. Remember as well that the original paint may have faded slightly with time and exposure to light.

I've used cheapo 'autojumble' grey primer and standard (Wilco and Halfords) spray cans on a couple of engines and not had any problems. You only need heat resistant paint on the exhaust. There's a guy on youtube who recommends brake calliper paint, I think he puts it onto bare metal.

If the JAP paint is a standard colour you should be able get it mixed.
