Re: timeing help please
Trying to rush a good job, I have started taking photos before stripping things down on my phone.
I normally go to strip something down you have it in your mind I must mark this and that ,than as soon as you put the scanners on it and things start coming off you get carried away and before you now it its striped down
Sorry Dave can't help you on timing but some clever chaps will now on here

Dave i assume you are talking the ignition timing ...?
sounds like it to me ... cant you get the engine just before tdc on the induction stroke around 1/8 of and inch and set it so the points are just starting to open there ....? as its a villiars with a back plate you will have to do a trial by error method if not dave it make a good door stop

i set the 2 and 4 stroke villiers between 1/16-3/16" before the piston is top dead dont do the 1/8-3/16" with the the flywheel as it will be a mile out of time "been there done that with the first one i did " lol i find that 3/16" works the best the biggest of times.
hold the flywheel on its marks and set the piston as above by turning it in a clockwise direction ,i use a pair of molegrips to stop the crank turning while you tighten the flywheel up ,or else you need 2 pairs of hands
