Kev ive been up since 4, A right pain When youre on holiday and still up at that time.
I think i may have to do a datting piece for the Ruston now as a few people are starting to ask about them. Its quit interesting whenyou start digging for info on engines as well as time consuming.
All my books are up stairs so as soon as he puts details of the engine i will have them down here and be able to help.

Re: Ruston Hornsby
ive been up all night stressing about the counterballance forklift theory and practicle ive in about 2 hours
i can only go internet scavaging for other peoples tips and so on for engine id and aging
so things i do know though listening to the older ones over the years and what i have learned for experence
from my own engines and ones that others give me to restore for them or just get to run again
the old engines are great how if you had a setting book and set timing marks and valve gaps as factory setting most cases the engine would never run again becouse of the wear and tare years and years of work put on them it could have a valve still open at tdc and fire half way down on the fire stroke
a man at the 1000 engine rally have a lister b ran all day saturday bought a book for it and in the evening re set everthing to the boook
result in the morning as descrided above
i helped him reset the valves so they had 3x book play turned it over and away she went
that was a tip from a very old man about 8 mnths back and by god he was spot on
thanks kev

Hornsby Numbers
Hi Paul, thanks for your reply.
The number on the plate on the side of the engine is 111598.
Numbers on the end of the crank are----- RECH
1, 8 OR R ,then 9
2BPP
They are stamped in that order from the top to the bottom of the crank shaft.
Hope this helps.
Bye the way it is an AP.
Thanks

Hornsby
Thanks Paul, i live in Aussie, North Queensland<Townsville.
I think this engine was originally low tension as it looks like a plate has been manufactured to take a spark plug.
All the photos i have looked at lean towards this being the case.

Wouldnt it be easier to just wrtie to Ray Hooley (his details can be found via google, just type Ray Hooley ruston)..
Ray will be able to tell you the date the engine was sold and to whom, as he has the Ruston archive.

Re: Ruston Hornsby
Russell just to add to what you've already been told, you'll need to send a stamped addressed envelope to Ray as he sometimes doesn't reply to emails, but being in Oz he might make an exception for you.

Just thought I'd add my experience
This is a bit late on the post but having just joined a week ago I'm playing catch up on what's been going on. I'd like to confirm that Ray Hooley is a great source of information for Ruston Hornsby owners.
Between my dad and I we own a few Ruston Hornsbys and even though we are in Australia Ray Hooley has been able to give us information and date of shipment to Australia. Even with a Hornsbys engine that was made in Australia by Kelly and Lewis, Ray was able to give us the date it was put together.
Ray is also able to provide quality decals for Rustons and operators books and part's lists etc.
Regards Graeme

Re: Ruston Hornsby
Ray also has some spares for Rustons things like bearings etc that are imposable to find anywhere else. Ray is Mr Ruston if he doesn't know then nobody does and he's very helpful and will go out of his way to get you the information you need.
