Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
I have read somewhere the company is still going, but they dont hold any dating records, but they did have some literature from when they were sold, not 100% sure though

Mike you've got me thinking now, when I first got my big Godwin pump I'm sure someone told me the Anson museum could help with dating it, never checked it out and that was a few years ago now.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
Hi Mike, From my own observations all I can tell you is the early pumps had a oil dipstick for oil height in the pump head the later ones have an oil level fitting.
Also early pumps have a cast iron base, later had a bronze one. Brass valve caps also have slight differences early pumps have a hexagonal broached or cast into them while later pumps are square.
Dates, as far I am aware there are no dates available on them. Try the Anson as I have not heard that may have information on Godwin before.
Sorry I cannot be more help. Bill.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
Bill, it was on another forum I was told about Anson having the information, saying that the guy I bought my Godwin off had a large selection of engines (good stuff if you know what I mean ) and only lived a few miles from the museum and he didn't know the date so I could have been given duff info about them.
On the bright side mine has the dip stick so must be an earlyish one.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
I sent off a letter today to the Anson along with a SAE asking if they had any info on the pumps.
It would be nice to get a date on the pumps but I am not too optimistic about them having the info.
Regards Bill.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
Fingers crossed for you Bill, I know it's only the cost of a few stamps so it's not going to break the bank even for a hardend Scots man like yourself Bill
Have you had any luck getting that Villier's running yet Bill?

My Godwin A2 is around 1941, this I know as the PB Ruston that was driving it was a '41 engine and it didn't look to be changed at any point.
The pump has a cast base, square holes on the valve covers and the oil filler doesn't have a dipstick or oil level fitting.
Can't help with a serial number, it doesn't have one!!!

I always thought the bronze base ones were used with crop sprayer equipment.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
Steve, you may be correct in that statement but I have had in the past Godwins that pumped domestic water all their working lives with bronze bases. It was only an observation on my part and not written in stone.

Hi Stu, Had the Villiers running last Saturday after a replacement coil was fitted.
I have it for sale at the moment as I have no love for it I am afraid........nothing wrong with the engine just not for me.

Re: information wanted on my godwin water pump.
Glad to hear you got it sorted and it never took to much, you should get a good price as it hasn't been messed with and all original. I have to say in my opinion that they do sell better tarted opps I mean cleaned up but I know your all for keeping them in there "working clothes"

I agree with the "tarted up" at least.
