Another Austral
This one followed me home today. It is an Austral Oil Engine built in 1909. It needs a little work but will be nice when it is done
Re: Another Austral

Re: Another Austral
I don't have a lot of room at home. The big engines and the trailer are normally stored at a mates place in my 40 foot shipping container. The smaller engines the current restoration projects are at home. The trailer with the new Austral on it is sitting in the garage while I go over what the engine needs. It will then go into the container until I have enough parts to make a start. I still have four R&Vs sitting here waiting to be finished
Re: Another Austral
you are lucky that your mate has that sort of room for the container....
still looking for 1hp R&V literature, can you let me know if you can help...
it turns out that mine is a 1913 R&V...

Re: Another Austral
Drop me an email to remind me and I will dig out some R&V stuff for you. I have gathered quite a lot of stuff since I brought home my first R&V 11 years ago.

Re: Another Austral
After some careful measuring, removing the pulley and general cleaning up I have confirmed the reason for the spokes on Austral 351 not lineing up. It is not the crankshaft as I first suspected but one of the flywheels as slipped on the key:
I will have to get the key out and the flywheel off to assess what needs to be done. It will still be a big job but not as bad as having the pull both flywheels off and repairing the crankshaft!
To rebalance the engine someone had added some metal to the other flywheel:

HI PATRICK...
do you have anyone that does engine shipping in your country..
Ive been on to peter and it seems that its a lot of work to ship from the states..
you have to use certain wood for the crate etc.....I'm trying to get the 2hp R&V that ken is selling
only thing is its a pain to ship to the UK....
i would have thought there would be someone that does just that.
there must be people like me that want to ship engines over the water...
do you know of anyone that can help,or is it the same in your country..
its a great pity,as theres some lovely engines to be had in the states, but we cant get them to ship them..
its a lot easier in this country as it not got to go on a boat and travel loads of miles over land and sea.
Ive had lots of engines shipped to me in this country, thay just strap them to a pallet and off thay go..
thay get collected by lorry or van,and delivered to your door,
it costs between £45-£70 depending on who you use..much easier..
i think there is money to be made in engine shipping, the other way is to get in with the fellers that have containers shipped over here..

Re: Another Austral
We managed to get the sideshaft flywheel off my 1909 Austral on the weekend. The keyway on the flywheel has had a hard life and will need a little work:
While the crankshaft itself is not bad:
The engine is now stored with its younger sibling (1917 3.5hp portable) until I have the parts & free time to finish it:
