Pre strip down information required
Hi all, although the Norman starts almost immediately every time, and runs really quite well, I’m planning on a strip and rebuild, mainly because both heads are blowing bubbles!!, I don’t have any knowledge or information on this engine at all, I was wondering if there is any difficulties I might stumble into?

I understand that special tools are required if you start opening up the crankcase. Hopefully Blue Cat will be along sometime to give you chapter and verse.
Let me know if you need a manual.
Good luck.

Update…. Both heads have been removed, looks like the engine had a rebuild a while ago, pistons are +20 thou, can’t feel any wear in the bores, found a hairline crack in the engine casing that the starter handle goes through, might need some JB weld on that, I have on the flywheel what I assume is a type of Cush drive and a bronze spigot, the Cush drive is tatty so I might not refit that, updates to follow

I would not advise splitting the crankcase halves on an Norman T300 (unless there is a veru good reason for diong it). This is because many of the joints on the engine are metal to metal and damage to the metal surfaces produced oil leaks. Woodsman is correct some special tools are required for this operation.

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated, I’ve got the Barrels, heads and flywheel off, but I’m not going any further, I’m impressed with the engineering of these engines, absolutely first class
