Maytag model 92 oil ratio
Hello all, have just acquired a Maytag model 92 engine, gent I got it from tells me he has been running it on a 33 to 1 oil/petrol ratio mix using one shot chainsaw type oil whereas USA maytag parts suppliers recommend 16 to 1 ration using SAE 30 oil at 16 to 1 ratio.
Now one thing that annoys me at a rally is seeing or being sat next to a 2 stroke engine that is emitting way too much blue exhaust smoke that is being sent in your direction, so what ratio and oil type do you use, on seeing the engine being run on collection it did emit a reasonable amount of smoke for first 30 secs. or so then eventually it eased to near zero emitting, I have never used the chain saw type oil before is reason for asking members opinions.

Hi Don,
Can't offer an opinion but there is a lot of conflicting and confusing discussion on Smokestack

Re: Maytag model 92 oil ratio
I'm guessing it doesn't have crankcase oil seals, just bushes?
I was advised on another forum to use 'vintage' 2-stroke oil in my Tarpen engine as older 2-strokes rely to a certain extent on thicker oil to seal the crankcase.

Woodsman, mikep, thank you had already seen what you mention and as said confusion is about.
mattblack, yes engine does not have crank seals as 2 strokes normally do, the crank bushes have oil ways machined into them.
Think will stick what the person am having it from says/uses as it works ok for him.
With these 2 coming that is why the Alco has to be moved on.
