hello from SW France
Hello
This new member jvbram introducing myself. I mostly live in south west france near the Pyrenese. Just visted my friend in Buckinghamshire and he has otained for next to zip an old Ransomes Multimower. It is the rotary type with a JAP engine that has a WIPAC ignition and AMAL 379 carby. Would that make it a 4/3 model? So to be honest my reason for joining is to ask wise members for advice and if i am succesful give other new members how i did it. Il repost my questions elswhere. cheers

Hello (or Bonjour) and welcome!
I'm sure that someone will be able to answer your JAP query, although photos would help.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum. Good luck with your project.
I'm working (very slowly) on a 4/3 myself. https://ukengineforum.forumotion.com/t10959-j-a-p-4-3
Mine has WIPAC mag and Zenith 24 T-2 carb. Model is stamped into the front of the cowl
Message me if you would like a manual.

Thanks Woòdsman, I d love a manual. Do you know if the Zenith carb is a simple bolt on job. Probably need the manifold piece also. But gives me a nother option if I see one for a reasonable price. Cheers jvb.

Re: hello from SW France
See my thread - fourth pic down shows manifold to carb with Release Tap.
Should be clear from the manual which I'll send now.

Re: hello from SW France
Could be the JAP version of the Villiers F12 engine, but photos will certainly help when you can post them.

Re: hello from SW France
I can say with certainty that it is a JAP 4/3. I connected a strobe light and found that if sparks at about 45° ATDC. With the magneto body and points fully advanced it was about 25 ATDC. Is it possible that the previous owner attempted an overhaul (the piston and rings look new) and mis aligned the camshaft by a couple of teeth? I removed the magneto and the pointer is completely of the scale. Should the points gap be at their. Widest at TDC? Mine doesn't,
