Piston Rings Empty Piston Rings

Post by Reach Mon Sep 25 2023, 15:59

Hello Together,

A few weeks ago I posted a question about the lack of compression on my Villiers MK 15.  A couple of people replied with advice - thank you for that.  Unforunatly I can not find that message anymore so I don't know if others offered further advice... No

Anyway, the advice I recieved suggested I clean the bore and fit new rings. I got a set of rings from L&S but their markings do not allign with my manual and the existing rings have no markings at all.

So to my question :- the top ring has "TOP" engraved in it so that's fine, but the other three only have the text "SIM f" on them, so should I fit the rings SIM f up or down?

Once again, many thanks for reading this and any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Reach,

I think you mean this thread.

https://ukengineforum.forumotion.com/t11405-compression-cylinder-bore#84657

Let me know if you need manual and overhaul instructions.

BTW - you seem to sometimes inadvertently post in 'The Shed'
Better to post in the Stationary Engine Section - New Projects/Restorations or Stationary Engine General Issues etc.

Hi Paul,

Many thanks for the quick response and posting advice.  I will keep this in mind for next time. Please move this across if it makes sense.

If you do have a manual or overhaul instructions that would be great as the two books I have appear to be a little adrift to the actual machine I have.

Again many thanks

Just my thoughts... used rings should be re-fitted the same way up, the markings on the new rings are probably irrelevant and if it mattered they would be marked 'UP'.

Hi Reach.
Have sent what documentation I have. The overhaul guide is actually for F15 but should point you in the right direction. Check your email.
