Hi Martin and a warm welcome to the forum. My guess would be around 1942 but no doubt Bluecat will be able to give you a more authoritative date. Will send a copy of manual as soon as I can
Please start a new thread in New Projects/Restorations once you get going. Good luck!

This Norman engine was built in 1942 (an excellent guess, Paul). No records exist for this particular serial number, but it would have more then likely been supplied to a branch of the armed serivecs for duty during WW2. In such a role it would have driven a generator (about 1.2kW) for battery charging or lighting purposes.

Thanks very much for your reply the brass plate on the engine loos home-made but it does match the number on the crankcase. I would imagine the the engine or plant probably wouldn't have a plate on it.

The crankcase number will be correct one. When these engine were serviced in batches in the REME workshops it often happened that the engine plates were swapped about and put on the wrong engine, and occasionally even went missing.
