Re: Inactivity
I joined this forum because the previous on that I was on disappeared. I joined that one because I bought a Lister D that I had known from my childhood, it was used on my fathers farm to power a Blackstone elevator in summer and an Alfa Laval vac pump; if there was a power cut at milking time. I still have this engine scattered around around in my garage and some parts in a shipping container which was broken into and ransacked last year; so parts may well be missing. I now wish I had not dismantle it; but just de-rusted it and wiped it over with an oily rag. If ever I put it back together I will aim to get it back in the same drab green that it always was. I imagine the only time that it shone was when the paint was wet.
I have been involved in engineering all my working life and so take an interest in anything mechanical or electrical; this is why I joined this forum. I read all posts that I see on my not too often visits, and contribute very little; either because I am not familiar with the subject or because somebody else has already voiced any suggestion that might spring to my mind.
Sorry chaps but I take from the forum (which is a very small but enjoyable part of my life); but give very little.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and peaceful Christmas and may it continue through the coming year.

Long time no spoke, haven't seen you at Dorset for a while, nice to know your still about.

Hi Martin, Yes still here and often about in the background. I think we were last at Dorset 2018 for the 50th event. I will venture back in the future.
Still have most of the engines but all needing a bit of TLC these days!
Hope you are well, best wishes for the season.

Hi Nick, Hope you are well.
Yes Fozzers was a sad loss but things building up on here nicely.
I do miss some of Peter's epic posts and over engineered trailer builds Good memories of an active forum.
I'm also on FB and respond occasionally and admin on the Fowler group (started by someone else)... but there ain't half a lot of dross. It is searchable to a degree but results are variable.
Nice little engine you have there, runs very well.
All the best

Hi Dave, I was on Fozzers under the moniker of 'Windrush' and was also sad at its demise. I see Steve Nail (Fozzer who started it all) several times a year at rallies and he was glad to pass it on as it grew rapidly and became costly to him. If Peter hadn't taken it on I guess it wouldn't have lasted as long as it did so we must be thankfull for that, I agree about Peter's trailer builds though!
Pete.

Hopefully better family circumstances and warmer weather next year will galvanize me into some quality shed time.

Re: Inactivity
Well said Dave about Stationary Engine as an example; it has often been said "It is written by Enthusiasts, FOR Enthusiasts" but fewer folk actually write or read anything these days. Its the same with Club Newsletters; one club boasts as having 300 members but very few actually attend a meeting and even fewer - practically none at all - contribute to the newsletter yet they would all complain if they did not get one.You only get out of anything, that which in return you put in , unless its just for cheap rally insurance!

Re: Inactivity
Rather ironic that this thread has more replies than many 'proper' ones...
Like all hobbies, people participate at different levels. I enjoy tinkering with small air cooled engines and bringing them back to life, I don't feel they are a step onto 'better' engines and the social side of things doesn't really interest me. I display at our local Open Farm Sunday event and I'm happy with that, I may do another local one day show next year as well.
On the subject of SEM, I've contributed a few articles (restoration reports and engine sightings) and had a few letters published and would encourage anyone to put fingers to keyboard, Patrick won't bite and it's good to see your work in print.
