Bradford engine
I have what I believe to be a 3hp Bradford engine. It has no horsepower rating on the brass plate just the name. It is similar to one that is shown on this site but the water hopper which is a square shape is bolted to the cylinder section of the engine. The one I saw on this site had a coffin shaped water hopper that was part of the cylinder casting that is bolted to the crankcase. Basically a 2 piece construction whereas mine is a 3 piece. The serial number is 10866. My question is what would have been the original colour for this engine. Mine has been through a fire and has no paint left. It was hot enough to melt the big end bearing inside the crankcase so it got pretty warm. It is the first stationary engine I have seen with roller bearings on the crankshaft. I would be interested in any information about it. Thanks . Don

Re: Bradford engine
Hi Don, I can tell you that your engine dates to about June 1944 from the serial number.

Re Bradford engine
Thank you for the reply, I will post a photo as soon as I can work out how. I am nearly as old as the engine so this computer stuff requires the input of the grandchildren. I still haven't found out where to put the crank handle in this computer let alone a photo. Don
