Re: Troy Garden Tractor with mk12 Villiers engine
Hi and a warm welcome to the forum. Nice little project you have there.
Tricky to date Villiers engines accurately. Have a look at this thread - towards the bottom you will find some info on date stamps on the tinwork.

Good luck.

Thank you Woodsman :-) The engine is now stripped so once I have it all cleaned up tomorrow, I'll have a close look for any stamps.

I'd say possibly 50's/early 60's as it has the earlier type carb?
I have workshop manual covering the MK12 in PDF form, if you PM me your email I will send you a copy.

Hi, my mk25 had a date stamped on the flywheel which I think is fairly common.

Re: Troy Garden Tractor with mk12 Villiers engine
Oooo.... very uncommon, not many of those about.
You have aTroy Tractivator made by Troy Agricultural Utilities Ltd of London, about 1948-1954.
The best source of information is the vintage horticultural and garden machinery club.
https://www.vhgmc.co.uk/
If you join you will get access to advertising brochures on this machine, and also able to use their forum for further information, but I have included some free stuff below.
Sometimes also called the Troy Brushcutter, when a large rotary cutter was attached to the bolts on the front and driven from the pulley on the engine. Yours would also have this attachment.
Sorry about the orientation, I can't get it to go upright. Before some wag makes a comment, yes they were also advertised for sale in Australia.
Also lots of info in these two threads:

That's a lovely looking machine you have ! I was originally intending to keep my machine unrestored but am now in two minds whether to paint it or not. Sadly, I don't have the brushcutter attachment .
