Troy Garden Tractor with mk12 Villiers engine

This is my latest wee project. Apart from new main bearings and any other internal parts needing renewed or replaced, it will remain with an oily rag patina.  If anyone can help me with dating the engine or machine then it would be very much appreciated

Tricky to date Villiers engines accurately. Have a look at this thread - towards the bottom you will find some info on date stamps on the tinwork.

Thank you Woodsman :-) The engine is now stripped so once I have it all cleaned up tomorrow, I'll have a close look for any stamps.

I'd say possibly 50's/early 60's as it has the earlier type carb?

Hi Allan, The only marks on the flywheel are 46 and villiers cast into the webb and 801 , small w, and a letter F

You have aTroy Tractivator made by Troy Agricultural Utilities Ltd of London, about 1948-1954.

Sometimes also called the Troy Brushcutter, when a large rotary cutter was attached to the bolts on the front and driven from the pulley on the engine. Yours would also have this attachment.

That's a lovely looking machine you have !  I was originally intending to keep my machine unrestored but am now in two minds whether to paint it or not. Sadly,  I don't have the brushcutter attachment   .

It's not my machine karamac, found it on the internet.
