Hello from Teesside
Hello everybody, apologies, this is a slightly belated intro
I’m a 45 year old IT engineer living in Teesside and I’ve always had an affinity with railways, traction engines, general engines etc. Unusual hobby for an IT person I know, but it gets me away from the screen and gets me covered in oil and petrol, and I love it .
A few months ago, I bought my first engine, an original Lister A junior and it’s lovely, just not running, I think the compression is low, but haven’t got round to investigating much further. Another Lister A junior came up and I couldn’t refuse, fully restored and running, so I bought it!
My latest acquisition last week was a rough but “running” Lister D. I say “running” because I saw it get started when I picked it up, but can’t seem to now (question in another section of this forum).
I have to say though, this hobby is addictive. I love learning about the history of these wonderful feats of engineering and if I can play a small part in keeping these machines running then I’m happy. I’ve already met some amazing people and I’ve already discovered that people involved in this hobby/addiction are extremely helpful and not condescending to us newbies. So for those who I’ve already spoken to, I thank you!
I hope to be an active member of the forum as and when work/life/family allows and if I can be of assistance to anyone, then please reach out. I also hope to meet others in the Teesside/Durham area, I’m sure there are loads
Sorry for the long intro peeps
Regards

Started writing FORTRAN on an IBM1620 in 1969 - check out how fast it was!!

Flunked uni so starting work in a lab. Many years and jobs later returned from Middle East and decided to re-train using COBOL. Got a job and next language was RPG on IBM System 36. Finally ended up as a BI consultant building data warehouses. Dabbled in Pascal, Delphi and a little Assembly language.
