Bamford EG1 questions
My EG1 runs more or less OK, now I've corrected the valve timing. The previous owner made a few mistakes when putting it together
I do have a problem with it hunting however - has anyone any advice on setting up the position of the external governor arm? I've got it so that the carb butterfly is held fully open with the engine not running. Does that seem right?
The other thing is the orientation of the oil dipper on the big end cap. It has a slot in it which is, I assume, to help it pick up the maximum amount of oil? Should the slot face the direction of rotation? The previous owner assembled it so the slot faces the other way.

Re: Bamford EG1 questions
Facing the engine from the starting handle end the slot in the oil dipper should face towards the left hand (fuel tank) side.

Re: Bamford EG1 questions
Thanks Pete, that's what I suspected. I'll get in there and turn the conrod & piston round...
EDIT: All I needed to do was unscrew the dipper and fit a thicker spring washer so that it tightened facing the right way.

I have an EV4, from memory, they might do this until under load, I might get corrected, lets wait and see. Mine certainly runs like that with no load, it settles down fine running something.

Re: Bamford EG1 questions
I seem to have sorted the hunting. Resetting the governor arm so that it holds the butterfly about 3/4 instead of fully open has made a great improvement.
