Petter A1 governor
Hi, I have just acquired a non running Petter A1 with a view to get it going. It looks ok inside, but it appears that there is a push rod missing between the governor and the large lever linking to the carb (this is my 1st stationary engine, so not up with the correct terminology!), please see images. I have lathe and mill, so can manufacture the part, so have been looking for an image of the part to copy, when I came across this forum.
Can anyone help me with an image of this part? Failing that a rough sketch, or description of the part would be greatfully received. Obviously it is a rotating part being actuated against a stationary part, passing through the case, so interested on the bearing surfaces and what materials?
As I am new to this I would also be grateful for any tips on getting the engine running. There was no starter handle, so I have fabricated one. I am old enough to have owned cars with starter handles, so am aware if the dangers of kick back (tuck thumb in!), but anything else I need to know?
Thank you in advance!

Hi Woodsman, thank you for your reply, and offer. Unfortunately when I tried to message you I was not allowed for 7 days, as a new member. Maybe I will try next week.
I have included a couple of images of the engine so far.

Re: Petter A1 governor
Thanks..... exactly what I was after, and nothing like I was thinking of, hadn't thought of the little ball bearing, though looks like a sod to assemble!. It does raise another question: the drawing shows 2 sets of bob weights, one with a pin for a spring and one without. I am assuming that this is showing 2 options? Mine does not have the pins, and no spring. In this case I assume the only spring in the system is the one at the top of the lever to the carb (which is also missing on my engine). This is what I was thinking it would be when I stripped it, I was thinking about making some sort of adjustment, so I can set the tension, to get the revs right, is this a mod anyone has tried?
Thanks again for your help, hope to start having a play tomorrow, or early next week, making the necessary bits...what fun!!!, exactly why I bought it!

Re: Petter A1 governor
Hi, another quick question: item 26 is bolted to the case, so the governor will spin around this. Should this be made from steel or phoshy bronze?

Re: Petter A1 governor
There is no spring between the top of the lever and the carb, just the connecting rod 40. The adjusting spring 32 is at the bottom of the lever and it's adjuster 33,34.

Ah yes, I see. I'm missing all that too..... another little job to make. I will post some images when I'm done.
Indecently, I added images to other posts, but I don't see them when I look at the string.... do you, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, the image is useful, I can see the set up at the bottom, which is missing from mine. Just received gasket set, so next task is rebuild, but will get onto the governor next week

Re: Petter A1 governor
Hi Andy, thanks, but I have already made them, that the reason I bought the engine. Good to see that the bits I made look just like the picture you sent!
The bit I am yet to make is the push pin, I was waiting until I have the carb fitted so I could measure the length I needed. Could I ask a small favour?: could you please measure the length of the pin?
Thanks for your help
