Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
Hi all, am looking for a cylinder barrel for a MK20 as per ad. title, needs to be standard bore unless an oversize piston with rings all in good usable condition is included, message me please.
Now a question, is welding possible to what I presume is cast iron that the above mentioned item is made from as the exhaust port area was damaged when I got engine, will add a photo to see damage later, please wait till photo is added then if you would or can give me an idea to possibility I might be able to get it welded to form an exhaust area that would suffice.
Must mention I do not have the missing part from break area

Last year i repaird a MK20 inlet manifould with silver solder but i think that needs welding. Johon Mills (Doubleboost) is in the N East UK he dose some good work. Look on Youtube. Arthur

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
That would be tricky to weld, access is not good, very dirty and hard to clean properly, cast welding is a hit or miss and has a lot to do with the quality of the casting, that's not going to be high quality casting, I would try silver solder I think.
Apologies for thinking the opposite of the above post.
Good luck with that repair

Another vote for John (Doubleboost), he's done a few jobs for me, he's Newcastle NE20 area I think.

update
Hi all, am still looking for a Villiers MK 20 cylinder, have looked at suggested alternatives but will just look for a used item as long as its either Standard Bore or an oversize bore but must have the corresponding size piston with rings and pin.
Now I am not sure but have been told a MK25 cylinder will fit onto MK 20 crankcase,so anyone have a usable MK 25 one with a complete piston.
PM me if you have please.

I have a barrel & piston/conrod etc. off a Mk25 "V" engine if that's of any use? bore doesn't seem bad

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
Could you sleeve the port with some thin walled tube and repair it with chemical metal? (I assume you've got the missing bit?)

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
Mattblack, that's the problem, I do not have the missing piece, a mate of mine was at my house and he said the same about using a piece of car exhaust pipe, use a largish washer with centre hole big enough to allow pipe through, 2 or 3 dabs of weld making it like a top hat shape into port area and as there is still one usable stud maybe something like J B Weld but the high temp kind might work.
But hopefully better still another forum member has offered me for postage cost a Villiers MK 25 barrel inc. complete piston and con rod for postage cost, can anyone tell me will the MK25 parts DEFINATLEY fit onto a MK 20 crankcase, same goes for carb. inlet manifold will it fit inlet studs.

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
Hi Don,
Had a quick look in parts list and there are different part numbers for cylinder, piston, rings, and gudgeon pin and head gasket. All others seem the same.
Inlet manifold varies depending on which carb, Villiers or Zenith.
Do you have a copy? If not let me know.

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
MK20 is 63mm bore, MK25 70mm. Stroke is the same.
I recon if you fit a MK25 cylinder and piston you'll basically end up with a MK25 engine...

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
What you are saying is correct, but my question is are the 4 stud points that barrel has to go onto and is the inlet manifold 2 fixing studs in exactly the same position on BOTH ENGINES, if not then a 25 will not fit onto a 20 crankcase and carb. manifold fixing will be different as well.

Re: Villiers MK 20 CYLINDER
Glad it all worked out, funnily enough I took my MK20 apart yesterday, when I saw that the cylinder was spigoted into the crankcase I was worried I had given you some duff info...
