Lister D air and lubrication

What is the best way to get the plastic part of the air intake on the carb to "seat" better to the brass? Is grinding paste useable? Or a good idea? Also,when greasing the rockers,what is the best sort of grease to use?

There aren't any plastic parts in a Lister D carburettor, can you explain or photo what you mean.

I use a high melting point cheap grease for greasing the rockers.

I agree with Blue Cat - there aren't any plastic bits used in a Lister D carburetor.
The air valve consists of a metal valve, a weak thin metal spring,and an adjustable metal threaded tube that the valve moves up and down in - if yours has any plastic in it then it suggests that at some stage someone has 'bodged' it for some reason.

The air valve does not need to seat particularly well. Make sure the brass plate has the chamfer on its upper surface next to the valve. That is all that is needed. The rest is down to the strength of the spring. When starting you hold the air valve against its seat to choke the carburettor. During running the air valve bounces between open and closed.
