Lister d starting problem

Hi all I have had a nightmare starting my list d everything is set correct. Today I thought I would try again turned over till the cows come home until I took the spark plug out and remembered a old trick from my bikes rub the plug with a pencil hey bingo started first time, stopped it and no go again, rub with pencil starts first, this seems to be the only way of starting it. Any ideas as to why and what can be done so I I don't have to keep doing this???

you could try a new plug, and if you still have the same problem I would say the magneto needs attention.

Bingo the plug must have been breaking down when under compression as I put another plug in today and it fired first time so happy

it wasn't a champion D16 off ebay for about £3.50 was it? I had the same problem. I think the plug wasn't genuine!

cant remember price but yes off ebay, live and learn. Thanks for the replies

I get all my plugs etc from Greens never had a problem and first class service.
