Small Villiers Engine
Good evening! I have been trawling the internet for the past half an hour trying to find out what this little engine is, but with no luck.
All I know is its a Villiers.
Could anyone help me with identification? It looks a lot like a BSA engine I found not too long ago, I believe that was 50cc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Re: Small Villiers Engine
Well, I officially own the engine now!
Also, I noticed one of the characters I thought was an '0' was infact a 'D'. Therefore, I now know that it is most likely a Norton-Villiers D07 01.
Still no information on the net that I can find, so if anyone has any info, please share!
Thanks

Re: Small Villiers Engine
So, anyone seen one of these before?
I've found another one, well parts of one online.
When I got it, one of the bolts on the head had come out and taken the thread with it, so I had to retap the thread and drill a slightly larger hole through the head. Also, the exhaust has a few holes on it, so I need to try and find a new one.
Haven't started it yet, need to build a stand for it as it just falls over when I try to turn it over.

Re: Small Villiers Engine
sorry i missed this posting back in may
as you say its the later spec of the villiers mk7/1
in my avatar on left ,front row middle is the earlier villiers spec one as fitted most common to the smaller atco mowers of the day
it was villiers 2nd smallest 4 stroke engine, smallest is just right of 7/1 and the conrod has no shells bushes or white metal just the alloy conrod direct to the crankshaft
sorry for the late response
i have a spares doner 7/1 in the shed so if anything else you need that maybe compatable let me know

Re: Small Villiers Engine
Ah right, brilliant! I haven't been able to find any information at all about it.
I'll have a look at it, probably tomorrow, before I head back down to uni to see if there's anything I need for it.
Thanks!

Re: Small Villiers Engine
My opinion is that this is an engine initially developed and produced by BSA rather than by Villiers themselves. It is known that Villiers was taken over by Manganese Bronze in the mid 1960s along with various other British motorcycle manufacturers including Norton. Villiers continued trading as Norton-Villiers and engine production continued (although some engines were built in India). BSA continued until the early 1970s when they too were absorbed by Manganese Bronze holdings and then became part of Norton-Villiers Group along with their engine line. Norton-Villiers went into liquidation in the late 1970s. So I believe that this engine started out as a design at BSA and was initially produced by them. The production of the engine was taken over by Norton-Villiers when Manganese Bronze acquired BSA. So the engine dates from 1973-1980, and with its Villiers badge is probably quite unusual.

Re: Small Villiers Engine
Yeah, that would make sense. I've seen loads of BSA engines that are exactly the same as this, just with a BSA logo cast into the back of the engine.
Re: Small Villiers Engine
Hi, I have a JP Mower with this engine. Have you had any joy with parts for this motor ?

Re: Small Villiers Engine
Hi Al, I haven't found any parts for the engine, apart from a couple of carb parts. I haven't even found another of these engines, apart from a picture of one on google. I haven't really been looking for other parts though as the engine seems to be in fairly good condition.
If you need parts for the engine, I know of a person you can try. Just PM me and I'll give you his email address!
Thanks,
Chris
