i have just got hold of this for my 2yo son. i had decided that as he keeps trying to steel my engines he should have his own. the good thing is he wanted to save his pocket money to help pay for it.

well it looks like it was built in june 1947 as its number is 1/10311. it has a spec number of 28dh.

it came out of a scrap yard and i was told it had been there for about 18 years. when i got it back i found a valve pushrod was off, the govner weights and carb including the linkage were solid, one govner spring is missing, it had no spark and the oil was more like tar.
after sorting that lot out it has now run for about 2 mins but then cuts out but i think this is due to the carb.

Looks like a nice engine!!

I do prefer them looking like this!

Make sure the fuel line is unblocked as new petrol can loosen rust!

Also make sure the air valve on carb is free!!

Also we need a video hehe

i had sorted the carb out ... well freed it all off any way so it all moves as it should but there is fuel leaking out from every where on it at the moment. will have another look at it in the week at some point.

the plug would go down when under load, the carb was letting to much fuel through then not enough !! and the timing was a mile out. still got to time it properly and set the valves but wanted to get it running while my son was not about so it will be a nice suprise for him on his birthday as he dont know we have got it yet. i am still pleased with him as he wanted to put all his pocket money towards an engine. he will get that back to put towards a pump as he thinks we didnt get the engine in the end so i have got until dec 1 to get this running nice and cleaned up a bit when hes not about.

Your son must be dead chuffed!!

But must admit the blue flywheel is nice!!

That pulley seems to be out a bit?

thanks for the comments. i think he will be well happy as he hasnt seen that we have got it yet!! its hard trying to hide it from him.
the pulley is only knocked on part way so i can still see the timing mark and i took it off to clean it up.

That looks brilliant!!

I do like the colour

Your son will be proud of you

The only thing im going to ask is why do you have it running fast also it seems to have the wrong throttle spring?

Cheers

thanks for the comments. its running fast for now just to get the mag fully back in to life. it is the wrong spring but its all i had at the time, i will put the correct one on when i get one. i have got to sort the timing out as it is set at about 40 degrees not the 20 on the timing mark as it wont even fire in the correct place !!
