A Zeus book is a book with all drill and tap sizes in it, bit like a reference chart. What are you planning to drill? A hole is the wrong answer.

Ah so that is what a zeus book is - thanks for that.
I am restoring a Lister D - where the water drain tap should have been someone has shoved (hammered) a chunk of wood in - I got the wood out only to find that the threads have been badly damaged - looks like a file or something had been taken to them.I think the thread should originally have been 1/8 bsp - this tap just rattles around in the hole  the next size up is,I think, 1/4 bsp - this tap doesn't quite fit so I will have to enlarge the hole and retap - hence my question.Am I right in my thinking or is there another way to deal with this problem?Thanks.
Kev.

Ah! In that case you are buggered as the hole with the wood in is 1/4, next size up will be 3/8, that is if it is the standard drain point on a D, might be easier to remove the old bush and start again, it's 1inch BSP so fittings are out there.

Ah! Thanks for that - these things are sure sent to try us!
I have a 3/8 bsp so might try that - what drill size would I need for this?
Thanks.Kev.

That's 15.25 mm for those in the 21st century, which is a bit of an uncommon size, but a 15mm dia hole would probably work OK without too much trouble

easy to source
try screw fix web catalogue 15.2 or maybe even spot on to the 15.25mm ,my last order seam to remember they were in 5ths of mils,
.2,.4,.6, .8mm, not the !/4s as spot on says in the zeus engineers bible of measuring drilling and boring shapening angles and on and on ,every good garage should have one even more so if you use a lath as even a cutting speed chart for metals and alloys
quility is not always the best but for a couple of holes into cast will be no issues
and delivered to you door sharpish too

Whit = Whitworth. UNF/UNC = Unified national Fine/Coarse. BSF = British Standard Fine.
W.INS = Whitworth Instrument. W.Pipe = Whitworth Pipe Thread Brass = Brass thread.
PROG = Progress Thread. BSP = British Standard Pipe Thread. WALTH = Waltham Thread
PEND = Watch Pendant Thread. GAS = Gas (Brass Pipe) Thread THURY = Swiss Screw Thread.
ASME = ASME Thread. HOLTZ= Holtzapfels Threads. LOEW = Loewenhertz Threads.

CROWN = Watch crown threads. BUTTON = Watch button threads
COND = Steel conduit thread (DIN 40430)
DUNLOP = Tire valves.
EDISON = Lamp socket thread
V = Sharp V thread
S&H = Siemens & Halske

1.Watch threads may be manufactured with a 45º, 50º or 60º thread angle. 45º commonly used in soft brass.
2Unified screw threads (UNC, UNF, UNS) replaced the old USS and SAE threads used before unification of
screw threads between the UK, US and Canada. The United States continued using 1/2 USS and 1 SAE
