Oooh back in 1974 I was given an engine to fix from my Woodwork teacher who was aware I got my hands dirty:-)
Anyway I restored it after a decoke and degrease together with a wooden stand.

Well today I would like some information in regards to this type of engine If could get my hands on another or similar!

I can only describe brief outline of the type, unfortunately I cannot remember the manufacturer!

I have been perusing Stationary Engine Magazine for the past year but cannot come up trumps, hoping you can assist with the limited info here.
  Air cooled
  Cast iron block
  Single cylinder (350 or 500cc????)
  Petrol
  Side Valve
  Exposed cylinder head - fins
  Amal monobloc carburettor
V belt flywheel approx 10” to 12” dia (2 x grooves) exposed. The flywheel lowest point 2” below sump/engine mount - Stand req
  Starting handle fixed
Exhaust manifold 90’ upswept about 4” or 5”
Throttle & choke levers fixed at cylinder head cabled to carb
Oil filler cap was a tube (screwed into sump) about 8” long a metal cup with lid on top with wire mesh strainer inside.
  Cylindrical petrol tank - small
The original colour I believe was green as I repainted the same.

Please post a few pictures when you are able.
Tutorial here. Looks a bit of a faff but follow instructions carefully and you will get there.

I can't think of any air-cooled engine which fits ALL of the parameters in your list.

Wolseley had AMAL carb, and flywheel lower than base. But not fixed starting handle or the oil filler tube.

Douglas also used an Amal carb, but flywheel is not lower than the base, and again no oil filler tube or fixed handle.

I wonder what it was out of if it had cable for the choke and throttle, do any stationary engines have cables for that, or was it a lawn mower type engine.

Hope you manage to get some answers.

Yes, Chrismac, for example the stationary engine used in Lister Autotrucks has choke and throttle cables (petrol version that is Smile ).
