Looking for information on the above engine. Mainly photographs or illustrations showing the engine from both sides. I would like to hear from anyone who has such a engine. There are two illustrations known, one in the A to Z and another in stationary engines for the enthusiast. Both sadly are of the same side.

I think there is one surviving engine of this type and I think StuartTurnerSteve might be the man to have some photos.

I have recently acquired one in a poor condition so some photos would be good.

Will see what I can do in the photo thing. Not being a computer wiz and not having a smart phone it may take some time. Haven't got the Amanco book, has it any photographs of the exhaust side of the engine in it?. Thanks for the tip about facebook do you know what user group it was in.

Yes the Lister D type look a like. Interesting that the internal layout is so different to a Lister D but yet the same in so many respects.

Wasn't there an article in SE about this? Someone bought what they thought was a Lister D but turned out to be a Bradford?

Hi Dale, The Amanco book shows two identical adverts, one for the Bradford version and another for the Amanco version. Neither illustration shows the exhaust side of the engine.

As I said difficult to find anything on FB after 2 minutes have elapsed, I've tried, but you might try and contact Joseph Sammut (from Malta) as he has something similar (although it might be a Perry - the Australian copy of a Lister D with a cross-flow head).

Don't know if the link will work.

There is also information on the Bradford "D" in DWE's Lister D Story book.

Hi Phillip
Thanks for the information. The photo looks like some parts of a Bradford but as you say it has a cross flow head. The Bradford I have is of conventional design with both inlet and exhaust next to each other. The carb seems to have a float chamber fitted to the blue one. Of the 2 other examples I have seen one has a low tank and a suction feed carb similar to a Lister d type and the other still has the low tank but with a Solex 26FV and a long vertical inlet manifold to drop the carb below the level of the tank. Of all the engines and illustration seen none of the Bradford engines seem to have a crossflow head. Never thought of looking in the Lister D story, but will tonight.
Regards
Dale.

Hi Dale, The cross flow head is a later development of the Bradford "D", details in the Lister D Story.

It would seem the Bradford went through a great deal of evolution over the years. I am surprised that there are not more examples still surviving.
