J.A.P D415
Hi everyone!
Recently purchased a J.A.P D415 which we intended to restore for the forthcoming rally season, but have decided its about time to get something "open crank"!
So,if anyone fancies a swap, please let me know.
The engine is not seized but needs a complete restoration. It does look complete, minus the exhaust.
Pictures can be sent if anyone interested?or viewing in central Cornwall.
Ian.
Ps,Completely new to this site,so any chat welcome!
My son has a nicely restored Norman SC and we have an almost completely restored Lister LT1.

Re: J.A.P D415
Welcome, I'm assuming by the name you're from the best part of the world?
Sorry to say I can't see anyone swapping a Villiers/Jap D415 for an open crank. While uncommon high speed diesels aren't really in demand for rally goers. Your best bet is to sell it and put the funds towards an O/C. I might know of one for sale out the Redruth area.
Norman S/C is nice, I showed one in Cornwall from years with my Grandfather.
Cheers, Steve

Yep, I know how uncommon they are sadly they don't sell well, £100-350 is what I've seen in the past few years. The JAP and Villiers are the same engine as Villiers bought JAP in 1951.
Sadly rarity alone doesn't command a high price; my Stuart Turner H1 diesel generator set was purchased for £600, mine is no 15 of only 15 made and it's the only 1 of 2 survivors which remained a complete set. I'd love it to be worth thousands of pounds but people don't really want high speed diesels from the 50s.
I know of a ZPR near Redruth but I expect it will be around the £1000 mark.

Re: J.A.P D415
Steve, thanks for the information.
I know diesels are not quite so sought after but this is the J.A.P. labeled version so I think its worth about £350(if we are lucky).
We don't want to sell it really, so a swap for something rarer(and smaller!)
I did see one villiers for sale online a few years back, for £350, but ours is different again.
Regards,Ian.
