hello from new member billybongo with Petter A
Hello everyone, I recently acquired my first stationary engine in the form of a petter A in cosmetically okay condition but devoid of even the slightest compression.
On stripping down I found the exhaust valve badly bent and not seating, in fact at rest is was poking up by about a good 2m from the seat.
That has now been resolved and I have very good solid compression.
There are two cross threaded head studs and wondered what size these would be?...I'm guessing 3/8 BSW but if anyone knows for sure I would appreciate the info.
Thanks.

Hi and a very warm welcome to the forum.
Post a few pictures in New Projects / Restorations when you are able. As to studs, if they are 3/8" diameter and coarse thread then your guess is probably correct.
I'm away at the moment so cannot consult tables. I'm sure someone else will verify.
I suggest you invest in a set of cheap thread gauges a digital caliper and Zeus tables. Less than £25 all in.
Good luck

Hi Paul & Stuart,
Thank you for your warm welcome.
Sadly I did not take pictures of the bent valve etc , but I will take a few tomorrow as the head and barrel are only loosely fitted, just enough to test for compression.
At the moment I'm waiting on a gasket set, two replacement studs and an ignition lead, so have made start on the paintwork.
I'll hopefully upload some pics in the next few days.
Regards,

Thanks Mattblack and Garak for the warm welcome.
I followed Paul's advice and bought a thread gauge, following which I discover the count to be 20.
Unless I'm mistaken this means the head studs are 3/8 BSF, and have ordered two accordingly.
I'm seriously looking forward to the rebuild once all the bits and pieces arrive.

Yes Petter A are BSF, welcome to the group.
Petter were ahead of the game with the BSF, Lister kept using cart thread for a number of years.
