Interesting genset. Nice find. Is that engine the same as any of Douglas's motorcycle engines? Enjoy your new toy....Dave

Re: Douglas FT35 generating set
Got this home on Sunday and on Monday had to have a play, checked it over and happy the mag coil has a good reading, oil was like new, some fresh fuel and now runs, next will check the dynamo and generator when I get my head around how they work, well happy with it.

Excellent Are you going to do your usual beautiful restoration or leave it as an oily rag job?

Thanks for the compliment Paul, I am in two minds what to do with it, need to sort the Dynamo and generator as they are not producing anything at the moment
plus I have only been able to start it by the handle twice so far, have been using a drill, with the dyno/gen set connected I can hardly turn it over let alone start it
with the handle, I have had one cylinder apart and decoked, rings are just on the limit bore is hardly worn and the valves are as good as new, so not had a lot of work
I think, the frame in some parts have quite heavy rust so think I will get the paint out for it, as for the engine its all alloy so will just need a good clean up.
I think that a set of rings will need to be fitted and perhaps will give me more compression for easier starting hopefully.

Hi Chiefy, I have not seen a complete one of these, many were broken up just for the engine I believe, I have been spending a little time on getting the exhausts made, the flexy exhaust is a bit bigger diameter than the original but should be ok, just need to find a silencer, I have been trying to think of a car that would have a small round one so I could go to an exhaust centre to get one, they are about 15 inches long by about 4 inches in diameter if anyone has any ideas, Thanks.

Re: Douglas FT35 generating set
The saying goes rain stopped play, in my case rain stopped work so went and played, have stripped the engine down as far as needed taken from frame, cleaned and honed the bores with a fine 180 grit honer, painted the barrels, heads, cleaned up rocker covers, engine has been flushed out but very clean inside anyway, now waiting for Cox and Turner to sort some rings for me, while looking at the mag I now notice that the plugs that are fitted to it are the wrong ones and also are leaking so am getting a weak spark at plug, also they are long reach plugs where they should be 1/2 inch, looks like someone has ground away the ends to stop valves catching them, now trying to find some right ones but Green spark are out of stock of any type that will fit and of course tried fleebay but nothing, if anyone could recommend where I could get some I would be very grateful they are 14mm by 1/2 inch, Thanks.
