Domain name has expired. I, for one, am more than happy to chuck a few bob in to buy a new domain. How do we contact other members to get a consensus? Why are admins so quiet?

No idea. but a quote from one of the admin on a thread on Fozzers "As a moderator & admin on that forum! I can confirm it is now closed . Just to satisfy queries . Thanks

Janner"

So there you go.

Bugger! I was just about to buy Stationaryengine.com with a view to re-instating when the site became available. Such a shame to discard all those valuable contributions for the sake of a few quid Sad
and disappointing that the admins didn't give anyone a chance to take it on.

HI anyone who can access this site i do not have any computer expertise but i agree with woodsman could we continue to access the site this way and if the site becomes available could someone take it on , do we have any idea of costs involved and how do we contact the members would we go through the membership list and send private e/mails? it would be almost criminal to lose all the accumulated info!!

Ahhh - it all makes sense now - I was away for work - get back and couldn't find the forum - am happy to assist in any way including financially - there are other forums out there - and FB - but I, for one, am not a user of FB... happy to donate financially to keep the domain going - and as many of you have mentioned it would be a crying shame to let all this knowledge go.. it may be in part replicated on other sites but I bet there's some unique references and assistance on each site... and I need all the help I can get Smile

As for Admin for the site - does it need more than an hour a quarter? approve new members as they arrive on email (just to check they are not trying to sell medicine from dubious locations...) and as a website with a ISP hosting the domain it should just run and run...

Let me know how I can help

Will keep in touch with forum motion and see what happens. Would be so much easier if old admins would let us take over Sad

Good Stuff Paul - I'm on the site about once a week now checking for news and searching for answers - considering nobody has really uploaded any new info there is a shed load of good stuff already here if you have the time to search - would be a pity to lose it - I will have to investigate how the entire database/ server / all the posts could be kept somewhere....

Hi Paul and StewartH,i have registered with the other Stationary Engine Forum, but i would much prefer this site and i keep looking in to see what if anything is going on and it seems like bu--er all, i just hope that it becomes available at a affordable price, it would help if admin would let someone else take it on, i would be willing to put a few bob in.
Best Regards,
Keith.

Hi All,

Have been in contact with Forum motion and may be making some progress. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in getting the site hosted again please post reply here. Forum motion need to see a show of hands before I (we) can take ownership.

Seems you might have some experience in these matters.
I spent 30 years in IT but never got involved with web development but I do remember something about using FTP and Filezilla to backup none database content.
Let's see how things go - and if all else fails we'll see if we can get forum motion to let us back it up and then start a new forum and reload. Does that sound feasible?

Not sure what to do with it now. I was going to post a note on Fozzers but that seems to have gone down the pan:-(
