Ruston Hornsby Dating
Hi all
Just aquired a Ruston Hornsby stationary engine - just rebuilding.
Can anyone advise me as to what it is !!!
On the flywheel is cast in - 6PB 26A and on the end of the crank - 200821
All I know is that it was originally sold by E.Rand of Wetherden, Stowmarket, Suffolk
Also, has anyone got a picture of the starting handle - this was missing when it arrived - I'm guessing it's a strange shape.
Regards
Paul

Paul if you want your engine dating you need to write (include a S.A.E.) to Ray Hooley and he'll supply you with the info and details of it's first owner.

If you're struggling to identify the model you might want to post a few pictures, if you can.
I'm guessing from the small bit of info you've already posted that it's a PB model.

Re: Ruston Hornsby Dating
I always quite liked these engines, always fancied one myself. Dunno why, I think it's got something to do with the fact it's laid down on its side.

Have contacted Ray Hooley - My engine doesn't exist - the number on the end of the crank refers to a Ruston Diesel that was for export !!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting about the PT carb - Just got to get a fuel pipe sorted and I can see if it runs.
If I can source or make a starting handle !!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards

Re: Ruston Hornsby Dating
He has checked all the engine numbers starting with 200 and none went to E.Rands of Stowmarket.
I reckon it's a "Stealth" Engine - a secret high performance version that crept into Downtown Suffolk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've ordered transfers from him for when it's finished

Re: Ruston Hornsby Dating
It makes me wonder if it was a prototype or similar that Ruston built and it was sold on later. Shame you can't find anything out as it may be a one off for some reason.
